NFL Professional careerEdit

Packers Green Bay PackersEdit

After playing one year of college football at Miami as a cornerback, he was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Despite having little experience as a defensive back, Shields impressed fans and coaches during the Packers annual scrimmage game at Lambeau Field by making an acrobatic interception off back-up Matt Flynn and returning it 98 yards for a touchdown.

At the end of preseason, Shields was promoted as the Packers nickel cornerback over several veteran defensive backs, including Brandon Underwood, Jarrett Bush, and Pat Lee.

Multimedia Sam Shields INTs in NFC Championship Game

Shields would record his first career interception in Week 9 of the season, picking off Jon Kitna of the Dallas Cowboys. He would obtain his second interception off Eli Manning of the New York Giants in Week 16.

In the 2011 NFC Championship Game, Shields intercepted Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie in the final minute to send the Packers to Super Bowl XLV. Shields recorded two interceptions, his first caeer sack, and forced fumble in the game. He would become the only rookie in NFL history to accomplish such a statistical performance in a playoff game. Shields was regarded as the Player of the Game.
